Looking for a start in journalism? Graduated recently? Still filling your days with whatever cheesy American drama is on E4 whilst growling at financial journalism job ads on Gumtree ? You know nothing about finance but you do want to write. We know the feeling.

Consider arts journalism. You want to gain experience writing copy, reviews and news pieces to develop a range of skills and build an interesting portfolio. Here’s a way you can get into a myriad of London events and do all that: apply for an intern position at Spoonfed Media this autumn. We’re looking for someone to work on the Spoonfed Comedy, Art, Live Music and Theatre desks reviewing events, writing news pieces and interviewing artists.

You’ll also get your pretty face on this here Spoonfed Blog along with other Spooners.

Essential info:

Spoonfed.co.uk is one of the best events site in London – covering a huge range of culture and nightlife in the city: clubbing, gigs, comedy, art, theatre and leisure.

The site offers previews of thousands of events as well as news, features, reviews, artist profiles and roaming features like our iPhone Event Radar. We are looking for exceptional candidates to spend 3 months at the friendly Spoonfed offices in Angel.

The Internship

Your time will be spent learning varied skills, including writing concise, accurate event descriptions; chasing event information; profiling and interviewing artists, promoters, comedians and interesting London folk; reviewing shows; plus marketing through social networks and traditional media. During the 3 months, we’ll provide a structured, supportive environment where you can learn a broad range of skills. There are weekly seminars on topics like copy writing, community management and search engine strategy. But by far the greatest learning experience is practical – you’ll learn the nuts and bolts of online publishing and leave us with an insider’s knowledge of web journalism and commerce.

Though our internships are unpaid, we do provide a travel allowance and ensure your time with us is meaningful experience complete with training – we give graduates of the scheme every support in building their portfolio and finding future work.

Our internship placements are offered in line with the Internship Charter produced by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated and very enthusiastic. You’ll need to be up for going to all kinds of events from poetry slams to opera and every teeny fringe show inbetween. You also need to be able to work quickly and learn fast.

If you would like to apply for an internship on our Live Music desk you have until 27th September. Hop to it.

Last year around this time we asked for your help in supporting our bid to reach the SXSW festival in Texas and thanks to your brilliant support, we made it there. SXSW is a massive annual event that combines the best of new technology, music and film into a three part conference/festival, which really lets Spoonfed Media shine on the international stage.

B2C vs B2B Go-To-Market Strategy Smackdown

From Town Criers to Twitter: Promoting Your Concert

Feel free to pass this on to any of your friends who might be interested (I’m sure they’ll be queuing up!)

Thanks – we’ll let you know how we do….

As you may have heard, Spoonfed joined forced with art tour company Artfeelers to run a special one-off tour around East London with Q&As with the artists involved.

We invited the lovely Holly Williams from the Independent along with us too and she’s written something up in the paper today!

To read all about the Spoonfed Artfeelers tour have a look at Tom’s Art on the Ouskirts review of the event

Sadly the online version doesn’t include any pictures taken by the brilliant photographer Rick Wallwork so here’s a few below from some of the great galleries we visited:

This was the first of many Spoonfed events that we’re going to be running – so look out for announcements of those throughout the rest of the year.

So, depressing news for graduates hit the mainstream media today thanks to new research from The Association of Graduate Recruiters which claims that on average there are now 69 people chasing each graduate job and that if you don’t achieve a 2.1 you might as well not even bother!

Well, BBC Radio 2 didn’t seem too pleased about this and wanted to find some stories of people who had taken a different route from most graduates – so they came knocking on our door! Our co-founder Alex had a chat with Jeremy Vine about why he and Henry started Spoonfed.co.uk in the first place and why working in a start-up can be a good option for graduates looking to make their mark.

Did you miss it? Don’t worry – as with everything on the good ole BBC you can listen again here: Alex Will on Radio 2 starting from 7 minutes 30 onwards or listen below just to the clip of Alex:

There’s been some frantic goings on at Spoonfed towers over the last few months and now it looks like all this hard work is starting to pay off.

Yesterday we all clambered out of bed extra early (separate beds I should point out) to pick up a copy of the Sunday Times because it featured our two lovely co-founders Alex and Henry talking about the company.

You can read (most of) the full article HERE.

And if you look extra hard you can even spot a few of our more publicity shy workers below. Ooo, check out that look of concentration on Dom’s face!

Spoonfed.co.uk has got lots of tips on how to spend the Easter weekend in London. To have a look at all our London Easter events please visit the Spoonfed site!

Chocolate, the Easter Bunny, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and a long weekend off work are just a few of the things that come to mind when people mention the word Easter. It’s the first bank holiday weekend of the new year and everyone knows it’s a great opportunity to stuff your face with various goodies. But, it’s also the time when London starts to come alive after the sleepy winter months.

There are some epic Easter Clubbing events going on and a bit of brilliant comedy in Paddington, as well as plenty of activities that the whole family can enjoy!

Whereas there’s no shortage of great events on over the Easter Bank Holiday, gifts can be a tricky thing this time of year. When are you too old for a jumbo-sized Smarties Easter egg? Some might say never, but if you want to get a gift for someone who loves chocolate but hates everything that Easter normally represents, then where do you turn?

Thankfully Spoonfed’s favourite online gift boutique, CultureLabel has the answer.
After what seems like an age covering other peoples’ events in London, we decided to throw a little party of our own, ‘I Heart Spoonfed’, in the glitzy, grimy Macbeth of Hoxton. The lack of productivity in the office the following day is testament to the fun that was had, with the last stragglers stumbling through the door at midday to pen the most poorly worded sentences of their lives.

The evening initially shaped up to be quite a civilised affair, with a barbeque on the decked terrace. There, under the fairy-light laden trellis, Spoonfed staff coiffed and networked themselves silly to the sounds of indie dance outfit This is Music. The first round of burgers looked like turds from Hades, but once the flames had waned, Editor in Chief Joe was flipping delicious patties befitting of the fabulous events website they represented.

Our founding fathers Henry and Alex arrived suited and booted, with the latter sporting a particularly fine silver paisley smoking jacket. We minions then passed the baton of representation to them, and let our hair down to punk demons Sexbeat and garage rock moguls Dirty Water. By now the venue was packed and the atmosphere was whimsical.

Alex and Henry

At eleven o’clock the Spoonfed team gathered downstairs on the dance floor for a group photograph, and the soaring levels of inebriation quickly became apparent when the simple task of ‘saying cheese’ in a coordinated fashion proved arduous. On the floor we stayed, dancing to the playlist of Wifey until 3am. I have it on good authority that he is an excellent DJ with an enviable record collection, but a quick survey in the office left me none the wiser as to what genre he pertains to; and not a soul could recall a single track he played.

Anant, Emma, Joe, Rose, Gina, Dom, Alex, Andy, Gemma T, Julie, Gemma B, Alice, Henry, Meg and Steve

Burnt into an intangible part of Spoonfed’s collective consciousness are the images of a marvellous party. We’ll have to throw another one to jog our memories.
