Role: Live Music Editorial Assistant

Best thing about life at Spoonfed: Being excited about coming into work each morning. And the office’s proximity to Chilango’s.

Skills I’ve learnt while at Spoonfed: How to avoid making tea while pulling a face that says I actually really wanted to, and I totally will next time, but just can’t right now, the joys of Twitter, the art of blagging.

Likes: Dominating playlists, wearing the same clothes as Alice.

Favourite Cake: Hot chocolate fudge or a nice fruity cheesecake

Full Name: Adam Dolan

Age: 28

Date Joined: April 2011

Role: Theatre Desk Intern to the Stars

Best thing about life at Spoonfed:
The people. The building is a close second; Spoonfed Towers is beautiful and awesome, despite the complete lack of emergency exit or contingency-plan in case of fire. To my successor: bring your own rope ladder to work.
Seriously though, a more supportive, friendly, helpful bunch you couldn’t wish for.

Special shout-outs to Emma McAlpine, Lowri Clarke, Tom Jeffreys, Dom Haley, and, of course, my editor extraordinaire, Miss Naima Khan.

Skills I’ve learnt while at Spoonfed:
I’ve become a much better editor and, as a result, a much better writer. Before I started here I thought a CMS was a type of yacht and SEO was the end of a postcode. I learned how to use Linux. And I was a Spotify virgin. I’m not sure which of those skills are most valuable, but I do know that only one of them means you can impose endless Elvis and Springsteen tracks on your work colleagues.

Likes:
Old movies. Older music. Being with my special someone. Watching LOST.

Favourite Cake:
Mini-battenburgs. Be warned future-intern; they always go first at Cake-Day.

It’s another special birthday Cake of the Week for the Spoonfed team. Because we were all still feeling so fragile yesterday from the Spoonfed & Bullseyehub office Christmas Party, we had Bacon Thursday, instead of traditional cake. But, undeterred by the change of day, we plouged ahead with another cake sesh to celebrate Dom’s birthday.

Eagled-eyed Cake Thursday devotees will notice a striking similarity to the same time last year when we celebrated Dom’s birthday. Children’s party cake, very messy desk, head hidden in shame – I guess nothing really changes round here.

In more general terms, my writing style has improved dramatically, and I’m being more focused and driven. Plus I’ve gotten over my fear of sounding like an idiot when interviewing someone (apparently we all do, so get over it)

Likes: Historical fiction, giant mugs of tea, musical comedy, the sculpture on angel wings in Islington, bobble hats, Irish men.

Favourite Cake: Chocolate Coca Cola cake – there’s a can of coke in the mix! Plus a whole packet of butter…heart attack cake!

Looking for a start in journalism? Graduated recently? Still filling your days with whatever cheesy American drama is on E4 whilst growling at financial journalism job ads on Gumtree? You know nothing about finance but you do want to write. We know the feeling.

Here’s a way you can get into a myriad of London events, write reviews, interviews and pitch your own feature articles: apply for an intern position at Spoonfed Media. Right now we’re looking for an intern to start on the Comedy Desk as soon as possible. The position involves reviewing events, writing news pieces and interviewing artists

Essential info:
Spoonfed.co.uk is one of the best events site in London – covering a huge range of culture and nightlife in the city: clubbing, gigs, comedy, art, theatre and leisure.

The site offers previews of thousands of events as well as news, features, reviews, artist profiles and roaming features like our iPhone Event Radar. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to spend 3 months at the friendly Spoonfed offices in Angel.

The Internship
Your time will be spent learning varied skills, including writing concise, accurate event descriptions; chasing event information; profiling and interviewing artists, promoters, comedians and interesting London folk; reviewing shows; plus marketing through social networks and traditional media. During the 3 months, we’ll provide a structured, supportive environment where you can learn a broad range of skills. There are weekly seminars on topics like copy writing, community management and search engine strategy. But by far the greatest learning experience is practical – you’ll learn the nuts and bolts of online publishing and leave us with an insider’s knowledge of web journalism and commerce.

Though our internships are unpaid, we do provide a travel allowance and ensure your time with us is meaningful experience complete with training – we give graduates of the scheme every support in building their portfolio and finding future work.
Our internship placements are offered in line with the Internship Charter produced by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a self-motivated recent graduate. You’ll need to be enthusiastic, full of ideas and up for going to all kinds of comedy events. You also need to be able to work quickly and learn fast.

Please apply for an internship on the Comedy Desk by Monday 6th December by sending your CV, a covering letter and an example of your work to contribute@spoonfed.co.uk
