So, depressing news for graduates hit the mainstream media today thanks to new research from The Association of Graduate Recruiters which claims that on average there are now 69 people chasing each graduate job and that if you don’t achieve a 2.1 you might as well not even bother!

Well, BBC Radio 2 didn’t seem too pleased about this and wanted to find some stories of people who had taken a different route from most graduates – so they came knocking on our door! Our co-founder Alex had a chat with Jeremy Vine about why he and Henry started Spoonfed.co.uk in the first place and why working in a start-up can be a good option for graduates looking to make their mark.

Did you miss it? Don’t worry – as with everything on the good ole BBC you can listen again here: Alex Will on Radio 2 starting from 7 minutes 30 onwards or listen below just to the clip of Alex:

Last weekend the Spoonfed team packed off to Sandown Race course to celebrate the launch of our latest product, Bullseye!

We enjoyed a lovely day of sun, sandwiches and a spot of bubbly – a few of us even made a few modest bets.

Would you like to see some pictures? Yes, I thought you might:

Some serious fun going on here

Emma celebrates her win – a sadly rare occurrence for our team

Did someone say “Luxury box with complimentary champagne”? No? Well we did, we bloody had it!

Oh! And Jeremy Kyle was there too, but we didn’t get any pictures of him.

There’s been some frantic goings on at Spoonfed towers over the last few months and now it looks like all this hard work is starting to pay off.

Yesterday we all clambered out of bed extra early (separate beds I should point out) to pick up a copy of the Sunday Times because it featured our two lovely co-founders Alex and Henry talking about the company.

You can read (most of) the full article HERE.

And if you look extra hard you can even spot a few of our more publicity shy workers below. Ooo, check out that look of concentration on Dom’s face!

As some of you Spoonfed fans may know, we’ve been hard at work this past year launching a new product. The product, called Bullseyehub, is a web based service that takes care of all your online marketing in one place.

It’s pretty exciting stuff and a lot of friends that we’ve made through Spoonfed.co.uk like Cargo, Proud and Ministry of Sound are already on board!

We had the official launch party for the website last week and got a few snaps that we’d like to share:

Further: The Festival of Science + Arts is a unique ten-day festival with runs until July 4 2010 explores the links between the sciences and arts and features a host of cross-disciplinary collaborations, scientific and artistic events.

For those who don’t know, The Royal Society is quite a big deal when it comes to world of science and it looks like the celebs have been queuing up to attend.

King of Nerds Steven Fry was seen quaffing gin and tonics at the festival last night alongside Tim Berners-Lee FRS, only the inventor of the bloody the World Wide Web! Mahiki eat your heart out!

There are dozens of events going on throughout the festival, but our favourite one still to come has to be a beautiful walking tour taking place along the Thames between the Southbank Centre and the Tower of London. Unlike a lot of the cheesy London tour you get around the Thames, the See Further tour will explain the science that keeps our city alive. The only tickets left are for for tonight and tomorrow though – so you better be quick!

We’re also looking forward to the Beautiful Noise panel with Professor Robert Winston (the bloke off that Child Of Our Time telly thing) which explores science and evolution of music. Cool, huh? Let’s hope Professor Winston’s impressive mustahce fits through the door.

It seems as though there’s been quite a brouhaha over the upcoming release of the second Sex and the City film. First came Monday’s deftly handled attack on the movie franchise from previous TV series devotee Hadley Freeman, who labelled the new Sex and the City film; “materialistic, misogynistic, borderline racist.” While today, Seattle-based The Stranger, published an article by Lindy West which reduced the film to “a home video of gay men playing with giant Barbie dolls.” Strong words.

So, while I’m a bit depressed by news that the second film practically pisses all over the foundations of sassy feminism that the early years of the TV programme were built upon, I’m thrilled to hear that my favourite aspect of the Sex and the City culture remains in-tact. Booze.

That’s right, the despite the fact that the producers choose to set the majority of the second film in the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, it seems there are still plenty of cocktails flowing at their five-star hotel.

When I watched the show as an 18 year old, it was always the cocktails that resonated with me a little more than the shoes, the fashion or the inappropriate men. My friends and I would spend many nights supping Cosmopolitans in low-lit branches of Pitcher and Piano *thinking* that we were sophisticated urbanites, rather than the clueless yokels we truly were.

Since Cosmopolitans are now as ubiquitous as poor reviews of the film, The Sanderson Hotel are celebrating the arrival of Sex and City 2 by hosting a brand new cocktail – The Cointreaupolitan.

The Cointreaupolitan promises to emulate the effortless grace and elegance of these modern day style icons and create the perfect blend of Parisian style and New York sophistication.

And if you’re going to attempt a sophisticated night-in this weekend, then here’s the Cointreaupolitan recipe to try at home:

Cointreaupolitau

50ml Cointreau

30ml cranberry juice

25ml fresh lemon juice

Method

Shake all ingredients together with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass

Cointreaupolitan

Ingredients

50ml Cointreau
30ml cranberry juice
25ml fresh lemon juice

Method

Shake all ingredients together with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Drink, and enjoy with friends.

Many moons ago cider was only known as a drink for crusty old blokes. And dirty students. And tramps. And anyone from Somerset.

But in the last few years it’s had something of a revival with the cool festival-going crowd and it’s now acceptable – nay encouraged – for a respectable person to sup on the appley goodness. As this new advert for Kopparberg shows, cider is having a serious moment in the public conciousness – maybe it’s the looming threat of increased tax, or perhaps New Labour’s social mobility policies have worked and now all the tramps work in London’s thriving advertising industry.

Whatever the reason, Kopparberg have come up with a fun new initiative to help fellow cider drinkers find new music, great talent, underground parties or brilliant nights out in their home town. And since this is what Spoonfed is all about – we’re fully on board.

Check out the ad below or visit http://www.findkopparberg.com for more info.

Cheers!

As all proud Englishmen and women know, April 23rd is St George’s Day! Normally this occasion passes by with about as much fuss as National Devilled Egg Day but this year Park Plaza hotels are trying to reclaim the St George’s Cross from the grubby hands of those BNP fellas with an ingenious scheme of free booze.

To celebrate poor old St George (who if anyone cares to know, was tortured and decapitated for his commitment to Christianity) The Park Plaza in London have hit upon the brilliant idea of giving away a free cocktail to all namesakes of England’s beloved patron saint. If your name is George, Georgina – or any variation of the name – you will soon be able to sup on a complimentary cocktail – the aptly named Gorgeous George!

Any time between 23 April and 30 May 2010 you’ll be able to sample this limited edition tasty tipple, which is designed in layers of red and white. A heady concoction of Beefeater 24 gin, elderflower cordial, white cranberry juice, grenadine syrup, the cocktail comes complete with rose petal garnish.

Although this is perhaps one of the most obvious PR gambits we’ve since this year, I’ve already spent a good 20 minutes consulting a list of the 46 valid variants to see if I can sneak in. If you’re lucky enough to have a name like George, then don’t forget to bring a valid photo ID or you’ll be leaving empty handed.

There are 5 Park Plaza properties in London, to find your nearest one visit: www.parkplaza.com
