Love Espadrilles

It was whilst on holiday in Granada some years ago that – unbeknownst to me at the time – I first came across what I have since learned is known to all and sundry as the espadrille. My friend Nat bought a pair from some grubby local Andalucian fellow. To be honest I wasn’t that impressed with this new-fangled espadrille – “All very well in Spanish climes, Nat,” I said, the pompous fellow that I am, “but they’ll never survive amid the unremitting harshness of Hackney.” How wrong I was…
This year, espadrilles are rather the thing to be seen in whilst sauntering from eco-savvy coffee curators to organic waffle emporiums along the interminably fashion-conscious Broadway Market. But they’re all so dull, I thought. What I need is something a little more, shall we say, snazzy. Enter Love Espadrilles, whose range of espadrilles (hand-stitched in France and Spain) come in a bewildering array of colours and patterns – none too brash, none too dull. Just, well, snazzy.
I selected a blue and white striped pair – not only are they comfortable, relaxed, and chic (in a casual sort of way) but they also tie in neatly with the nautical vibe that I’m currently busting whenever possible. And provide a cheap, hardy alternative to deck shoes. Perfect.
Oh, and a note about Granada: it’s definitely worth a visit, probably for the beautiful Alhambra alone. Although you may find it quite difficult to leave – it’s really rather Moorish. Urgh, sorry.
Love Espadrilles are available at John Lewis or from LoveEspadrilles.com.

Nice article Tom,
My name is Heather from NY, I’ve purchased great espadrilles from the love site but the shipping costs are a killer,
For those in the US or Canada, there’s a great website located in Montreal:

(I hope it’s ok to post this link ; )
In any case, espadrilles rock !
Cheers
Heather
