New Film, New Drink: Introducing The Cointreaupolitan Cocktail

It seems as though there’s been quite a brouhaha over the upcoming release of the second Sex and the City film. First came Monday’s deftly handled attack on the movie franchise from previous TV series devotee Hadley Freeman, who labelled the new Sex and the City film; “materialistic, misogynistic, borderline racist.” While today, Seattle-based The Stranger, published an article by Lindy West which reduced the film to “a home video of gay men playing with giant Barbie dolls.” Strong words.
So, while I’m a bit depressed by news that the second film practically pisses all over the foundations of sassy feminism that the early years of the TV programme were built upon, I’m thrilled to hear that my favourite aspect of the Sex and the City culture remains in-tact. Booze.
That’s right, the despite the fact that the producers choose to set the majority of the second film in the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, it seems there are still plenty of cocktails flowing at their five-star hotel.
When I watched the show as an 18 year old, it was always the cocktails that resonated with me a little more than the shoes, the fashion or the inappropriate men. My friends and I would spend many nights supping Cosmopolitans in low-lit branches of Pitcher and Piano *thinking* that we were sophisticated urbanites, rather than the clueless yokels we truly were.
Since Cosmopolitans are now as ubiquitous as poor reviews of the film, The Sanderson Hotel are celebrating the arrival of Sex and City 2 by hosting a brand new cocktail – The Cointreaupolitan.
The Cointreaupolitan promises to emulate the effortless grace and elegance of these modern day style icons and create the perfect blend of Parisian style and New York sophistication.
And if you’re going to attempt a sophisticated night-in this weekend, then here’s the Cointreaupolitan recipe to try at home:

Cointreaupolitan
Ingredients
50ml Cointreau
30ml cranberry juice
25ml fresh lemon juice
Method
Shake all ingredients together with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Drink, and enjoy with friends.
