Mooli’s

The biting December cold had almost frozen my hands solid when I shuffled into the slick and modern Mooli premises on Frith St in Soho. A warming chai tea was immediately thrust into my hands by friendly proprietor Sam with the assurance that it was “on the house” when he saw my frugal hesitation.

Sam and Mathew opened Mooli’s only a few weeks ago and their Indian fusion cuisine is already attracting a booming lunchtime trade. I’m assured that the Moolis are much more than wraps – each meat and vegetable combination is specially chosen and paired with freshly made chutneys from recipes handed down through the generations.

The flavour combinations were inspired by Sam’s travels through Asia and Mexico as well as his native Indian cuisine. It’s clear from the first bite that extensive thought and preparation went into the menu selection and although the intrepid duo plan to keep it simple they’ll soon introduce warming soups too. On this occasion, my dining partner and I had a selection of the mini-moolis that included, chicken, asparagus, paneer and a very spicy pork! Luckily, if diners (like me) are finding it all a little too hot to handle they can take the edge off with a cooling mango yoghurt smoothie – which I highly recommend!

Mooli’s is great for a light lunch or quick snack for when you’re on the go – the simple menu and swift service made it feel a gourmet fast-food restaurant. These handy morsels will go down a treat with the post-pub crowd too and if they get a 3am license I bet most clubbers will happily swap their greasy kebab for a delicious Mooli!

Love Moolis! Delicious, nutritious and novel. Wipes the floor with just about everything I’ve had in London, and it’s def my favourite on the go fodder… This place deserves to do well! Support and you won’t be disappointed!
