Bands You Should See#6 The Postelles

the postelles

To stand out in a market filled to saturation point with long-haired, skinny-jeaned boys with guitars is a considerable feat. The Postelles achieve this with ease, blending saccharinely sweet tunes with a Motown sound that is at once likeable but with enough depth to keep you returning.

As a band, they seem to have modelled themselves on The Strokes, a template that many have emanated but few successfully. However, having just had their first EP produced by Mr. Albert Hammond, Jr. Himself, in this case it seems fitting. Born in New York City, the band cobbled themselves together whilst at high school, a time which has been chronicled in their self-titled release.

Trips over here have been few and far between so far, but you can be sure that as their profile rises, they’ll be regular fixtures on the bills of the biggest venues in the country. Zane Lowe’s featured them on his Radio 1 show and given them his seal of approval, a good omen for any band on its path to stardom.

They’re going to need all the help they can get as the band have set their sights on the highest echelons of fame. Lead singer Daniel Balk explains: “We really do want to be the biggest band in the world, and not for an ego thing, just ‘cos we want everyone to hear us, and we want our music to affect everyone in the way that The Beatles and all those bands affected us. That’s our dream.”
