London for London

Submitted by Alice on Tuesday, 29 September 2009One Comment

Charity events have something of a bad reputation in my circle. They usually involve enforced fun, lots of smiling, or marathons. But this Saturday a very different kind of charity event is taking place in our capital, one that even my lazy and cynical friends can’t object to. To get involved with this charity night all you have to do is go out to a pub for the evening!

London For London is a new charity event aiming to tackle youth crime and combat anti-social behaviour amongst young people. London for London will unite the city by encouraging bars, clubs and pubs across the capital to invite every person who walks through their door that night to donate just £1 to charity.

On October 3rd, London for London is teaming up with over 600 venues across London to take donations from customers already out enjoying the capital’s great night-life. Spoonfed have also linked up with the event to show you exactly where those places are and what’s going on. You can search here for events and a huge range of venues that include Matter, Cafe 1001, Bungalow 8, Ministry of Sound, Guy Ritchie’s Punch Bowl and even the O’Neill pub chain.

London for London will donate every penny collected to charity, splitting it between 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a London Child, the Volunteer Police Cadets and Kids Company, who are also the recent beneficiaries of a £1 million donation from the band Coldplay. It seems as though every Londoner with a conscious has got in the giving mood with Prince William and London Mayor Boris Johnson also pledging their support for the charity event.

So if you feel like getting more involved then contact London for London’s volunteering partner, Leap Anywhere, for information about volunteering at one of the London venues.  You can also contact London for London directly for more information about how to help at the capital’s biggest night out.

Of course even the laziest do-gooder now has a way to help out three fantastic children’s charities, simply by grabbing a couple of mates and heading off to the pub. And let’s face it, you were probably going to do that anyway.
