Hole in the Donut
It’s a beautiful day in the city of London. Not that I can enjoy it of course. I’m at work; just like you, and the only reason I know it’s a beautiful day is because the floor-to-ceiling windows of Spoonfed are taunting me, drawing attention to the blue sky beyond my reach. I sit here basking in the glow of fluorescent lights, staring at a glowing box, while others are running in open fields and bathing in shimmering oceans.
The Thames doesn’t particularly qualify as a shimmering ocean, so what am I to do? I can’t exactly jump on a flight to some tropical paradise, nor can I visit an exotic metropolis where I don’t have to think about work, rent, bills and all the other frustrations of reality. So what options are open to me? All I can do is dream, but dreaming is difficult at times, especially when dreaming of a locale where you’ve never been. That’s where Hole in the Donut comes in.
Created by ex-corporate slave, and current freelance writer and travel enthusiast Barbara Weibel, Hole in the Donut is a wonderfully immersive and vivid travel blog that provides a little catalyst for daily escapism. After years of working 70 hours a week at jobs she hated, Barbara abandoned her career and set out on a six-month solo backpacking trip around the world, during which she pursued her true passions of travel, writing, and photography.
Barbara’s writing and images convey beautifully the attractions of various destinations around the world, and she also offers helpful tips about travel in general, or hints about specific locations. Hole in the Donut is really one of those standout blogs, and we at Spoonfed definitely recommend that you make it part of your daily escapist routine. Bon voyage.
