Top 5 London Quiz Nights

Submitted by Spoonfed on Saturday, 28 June 2008No Comment

Ah! The humble pub quiz. As Londoners, we like nothing better than winning a bottle of vino or a few bob on a weeknight or a Sunday.

Quizzes are not just for the locals with their own dedicated seats, or boffins, though a Team Boffin can be useful for particular toughies. Outwit a few drunken opponents and you might even score a few good prizes along the way.

London’s Strangest Night Out Quiz…
Izzy Wizzy Let’s Get Quizzy @ The Dignity
Every Wednesday from 9pm
£1 per person, no team limit

Hosted by Sky TV’s Richie Litchfield, the Dignity’s Izzy Wizzy Quizzy is part game show and part quiz. The proceeds from this random night go to charity to help the North London Hospice and with the quiz only costing you a pound, you are certainly getting value for money. Featuring the bonus round ‘Rummage around in my box’, this night will have you falling off your seat with laughter as well as brain strain.

Something even the members of Babyshambles could win…
Music Quiz @ The Cedar Room
Every Tuesday from 6:30pm
£2 per person, no team limit
Tough, entertaining music quiz hosted by Ronnit Littl’an with some cracking prizes like gig and festival tickets, CDs, merchandise and of course booze. It is very difficult to win though with the Islington location making it a target for music producers and industry types looking to flex their stacks of pointless knowledge.

Disney musical…
Who Killed Bambi? @ Boogaloo
Twice Monthly from 8pm
£1 per person, no team limit
One of London’s great muso pubs hosts the capital’s best muso quiz. Don’t expect questions relating to the chart here, you need to be a nerd. You’ll be up against record label types, rock stars and possibly the odd Spoonfed staffer, grinning smugly after answering a tricky Throbbing Gristle question, but the prizes are great and you can’t really go wrong for a quid.

Where to cool kids go to win…
The Prize is Shite – Deptford Arms
Every Monday – 8pm
£1 per person, no team limit

The Prize Is Shite is a weekly pub quiz show with literally tens of pounds worth of prizes. Featuring unusual quiz shenanigans with interactive video rounds, music, DJs, cheap drinks, there’s the odd bit of cash and booby prizes to collect along the way.

Genuine Brain Teaser…
Pineapple Pub Quiz
Every Monday – 8:30pm
£1 per person, no team limit
This really is the toughest quiz in town with questions both random and challenging. The locals turn up in droves to spend their Monday evenings in this brilliant pub testing their grey matter. If you’re lucky you might even spot a celebrity newsreader – Jon Snow (Channel 4 News) has been known to brush up on his general knowledge at the Pineapple.

Best of the Rest

For those who cannot think on an empty stomach, we recommend the Curry and Quiz night at The Baring every Thursday night. A Spoonfed fave.

The Wednesday pub quiz at the King’s Head Crouch End offers prizes of free drinks and cash to teams with the best team name and the best hairdo.

For 15 years the Elgin has puzzled locals every Sunday night. This quiz is also eminently winnable if you read a couple of papers over the weekend. Especially the Birthdays column.

The alcoholics dream, the Sunday quiz night at The College Arms offers a gallon of beer, bottle of wine/champagne or some shooters for the winners. Beware the music trivia wizards from Fopp around th corner…
